Buddies
Ages 16 - 25
The Buddy role is what makes camp truly special. Each Buddy is paired one-on-one with a camper for the entire week — your camper is your person, and you are theirs. For some campers, that means simply being a steady friend and companion throughout the week. For others, it means providing hands-on assistance with daily needs like getting dressed, eating, and using the restroom. Whatever your camper needs, you show up for them. It’s one of the most personal and rewarding roles at camp — and the connection you build in just one week can last a lifetime.
Cabin Hands
Ages 14-17
Cabin Hands serve as an extra set of hands wherever they’re needed — in the cabin, during activities, and everywhere in between. Working alongside Buddies, Cabin Parents, and Camp Crew, Cabin Hands fill in the gaps and provide support that keeps the whole team moving. It’s a flexible, hands-on role that gives you a front-row seat to everything camp has to offer — and makes it the perfect starting point for anyone hoping to serve as a Buddy in the future.
Cabin Parents
Age 22 and older
Cabin Parents are the heart of the cabin experience. As the primary leader for their cabin group, the Cabin Parent provides oversight and guidance to Buddy volunteers and Cabin Hands, making sure the day-to-day life of the cabin runs smoothly and every camper feels cared for. Beyond the leadership role, Cabin Parents roll up their sleeves for whatever is needed — whether that’s doing laundry for a camper, passing out snacks, sitting with the cabin during FOB (our afternoon rest time) and devotionals, or simply taking a few minutes to get to know a camper, a fellow volunteer, or a staff member. If you’re a natural encourager who leads by serving, the Cabin Parent role was made for you.
Camp Crew
Ages 18 and older
Camp Crew is the backbone of camp week — our utility players who work directly alongside camp leadership to keep everything running smoothly. From facilitating activities and entertainment to supporting worship, Camp Crew members go wherever they’re needed and do whatever is needed. When the sun goes down, Camp Crew serves as night watchers, providing a calm and caring presence for campers who have difficulty sleeping. If you’re flexible, energetic, and love serving without a script, Camp Crew is your place.
Medical Staff
Licensed Medical Professionals
Licensed medical professionals, who come to volunteer their time and expertise to care for campers here at Camp Blessing. These professionals may be paramedics, nurses, PA’s/NP’s or physicians. Volunteer clinicians must have at least two years of experience in their respective field.
Volunteer FAQ
Do I need special training or experience to volunteer?
The most important things you can bring are a positive attitude and a genuine desire to serve. Everything else — the specific skills and knowledge you need to support our campers — will be covered during volunteer orientation before camp begins. If you have a heart for kids, you belong on our team
What roles are available?
We have four main volunteer roles: Buddy (paired one-on-one with a specific camper), Cabin Hand (supporting camper care within a cabin group), Medical Support (for licensed medical professionals), and General Volunteer (activity support, setup, and day-to-day camp operations). Each role is described in detail on the volunteer application.
How many days do I need to commit?
Volunteers commit to a total of five days — one day for required orientation and training, plus four days of camp. Your full presence for all five days is important for the continuity and safety of our campers.
.
Is a background check required?
Yes — every volunteer must complete a criminal background check, including a search of the national sex offender registry. This is non-negotiable and exists entirely to protect our campers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Will I receive training before camp starts?
Yes. All volunteers are required to attend an orientation session before camp begins. The date, time, and location will be communicated to you as part of the application process once you are accepted.
Where do volunteers sleep and eat?
Buddy volunteers and cabin hands sleep in the same dormitory areas as the campers. You are there to support campers around the clock — day and night. All meals are provided for volunteers throughout the week. This is a full residential experience and one of the most rewarding weeks you will have all year.
Can I volunteer for both sessions?
Yes — and we would love to have you back. If you are interested in volunteering for both the ASD Adventure and Bold Explorers sessions, simply indicate this on your application.
I'm a medical professional — how can I help specifically?
Your skills are especially valuable to us. Medical volunteers assist with medication administration, general first aid, and ongoing health monitoring throughout camp — watching for signs of dehydration, fatigue, or other conditions during activities. In the event of a medical emergency, you would work alongside our on-site registered nurse to respond quickly and effectively. If you are a licensed medical professional and want to serve, please indicate this on your application.
Can college students volunteer for course credit?
We are not set up to facilitate academic course credit at this time. However, volunteers who need documented service hours can earn up to 80 hours through their time at camp, which can be verified for scholarships, honor societies, or other volunteer-hour requirements.
How do I apply to volunteer?
Complete the volunteer application on our website at wtxcamps.org. Once submitted, our team will review your application and follow up with the next steps, including background check instructions and orientation details.
