Meet The Founders

Eight years ago, Wayne and Penny’s passion for special needs camping was ignited when they began working with visually challenged children. Inspired by the joy these children experienced during camp activities, they expanded their work to include children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other disabilities. They believe that individuals of all abilities should have equal opportunities to enjoy activities like ziplining, archery, and sharing s’mores around a campfire. Their dedication to camp ministry deepened as they witnessed the transformative impact it had on individuals with disabilities.

Wayne and Penny embarked on their journey into camp ministry in 1998 at Camp Copass before transitioning to Trinity Pines Baptist Conference Center. Wayne served as Executive Director for 8 years at East Texas Baptist Encampment, followed by an impactful 12-year tenure at Plains Baptist Assembly. Throughout these roles, Penny adeptly managed office operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of both camps.

Under Wayne’s visionary leadership as Executive Director, significant transformations took place at both camps. His strategic initiatives led to crucial upgrades in infrastructure, the construction of new buildings, the renovation of older facilities, and the development of new recreational amenities. These enhancements not only improved the camps’ physical environments but also enriched the experiences of campers and staff alike.

Recognizing the need for a West Texas camp dedicated to individuals of all abilities, Wayne and Penny invite you to join them in this endeavor. Together, let’s create a space where individuals and families on the special needs journey can thrive.
