Your Child is Invited To Bold Explorers.

A free summer camp experience built specifically for visually impaired youth.

We started West Texas Camps & Retreats because of our own child — and because we know what it feels like to want something wonderful for your son or daughter and not be able to find it.

Bold Explorers was built with that love in mind. Every detail, every activity, every volunteer on that field was chosen because your child deserves a week that is truly theirs.

We would love nothing more than to talk with you personally — by phone or video call — before you ever fill out an application. Let us answer your questions, ease your concerns, and tell you exactly what we have planned for your child this summer.

Call us at 806-319-5512 or schedule a video call through our website. We can’t wait to meet your family.

Your Child’s Story Starts Here.

Archery. Swimming. Karaoke. A talent show. New friends and late nights full of laughter. This summer, eighteen campers are going to experience something they will talk about for years. Bold Explorers 2026 is four days of real adventure — designed specifically for youth with visual impairments, fully scholarship-funded, and completely free to attend. Every activity is adapted. Every camper is known by name. Every moment is built to bring out the best in your child. Spots are limited to eighteen campers, and they will fill fast. Will your child be one of them?

What Makes Bold Explorers Different

Every activity at Bold Explorers is selected and adapted with visually impaired campers in mind. Archery with adaptive equipment. Crafts designed for hands-on engagement. Team games built around every ability level. Swimming, karaoke, a talent show, food decorating — real camp experiences, not watered-down versions. Your child won’t be watching from the sidelines. They’ll be in the middle of it.

A Glimpse of the Week

No two days at Bold Explorers are exactly alike — and that’s the point. Mornings kick off with breakfast and worship before the real adventure begins. Bible study, archery, swimming, crafts, team games with your Buddy — the kind of activities that push comfort zones in the best possible way. After lunch, there’s a restful break built in before the afternoon comes alive again. Evenings bring the whole camp together for supper and a program your camper won’t stop talking about. And capping off the week? A talent show and karaoke night that tends to steal the show every time. Four days. Packed full. Every single one.

The Buddy System

Every Bold Explorers camper is paired with a dedicated one-on-one volunteer Buddy for the entire week. Your child will never navigate camp alone. Their Buddy stays with them through every activity, every meal, and every transition — a consistent, familiar presence from the moment they arrive to the moment you pick them up.

Safety & Medical

A licensed registered nurse is on site for the full duration of camp. We maintain a 1-to-3 adult-to-camper ratio, and overnight supervision is provided in every sleeping area throughout the night. Your child’s safety is not an afterthought — it’s built into every part of how we run camp.

The People Behind Bold Explorers

Every adult who serves at Bold Explorers — staff and volunteers alike — has passed a full criminal background check, including a national sex offender registry search, and completed a child safety course before setting foot at camp. Your child’s Buddy receives additional orientation and training specifically focused on supporting campers with visual impairments. And throughout every activity, every meal, and every moment of the day, trained adult staff are present — supervising, supporting, and making sure every camper is safe and having the time of their life. You are not handing your child to strangers. You are handing them to a team that earned that trust before camp ever began.

Who Qualifies

Bold Explorers is open to campers ages 11–17 with a visual impairment. Camp is fully scholarship-funded — there is no cost to attend. Space is limited to 18 campers per session, so early applications are encouraged.
