Is Camp Right For My Child?
West Texas Camps and Retreats was founded for kids like yours. If your child has never found a camp that fits – this is why we exist.
Your child belongs here if...
Maybe camp has never felt like something your child could do. Not because they couldn’t handle it — but because no one had built a program where they could succeed.
West Texas Camps & Retreats exists because that shouldn’t be the story.
Our program was created by a family who knows firsthand what it feels like to search for a camp experience that truly fits their child — and come up empty. Every decision we make, from how we train our staff to how we structure each day and adapt every activity, starts with one question: will this work for a child with real, specific needs?
If your child is on the autism spectrum or has a visual impairment, ages 11–17, and has never had a camp experience that felt like it was made for them.
Sessions are intentionally small – 18 campers each – so every child will be known by their name, supported individually, and never lost in the crowd.
- ASD Adventure Camp – for campers on the autism spectrum
- Bold Explorers Camp – for campers with visual impairments
As we grow, we plan to expand to campers ages 7 and up – including teens and adults – and to serve a broader range of special needs. This summer is just the beginning.
Four days packed with adventure - adapted for every ability
Every activity at camp is thoughtfully adapted so your child can participate fully — not just watch from the sidelines.
The week includes swimming, archery, the zipline, and team games. When it’s time to slow down, campers enjoy crafts, food decorating, music, and karaoke. Evening party nights bring everyone together for themed games, dancing, and nonstop fun.
Life skills activities send campers home with practical tools they’ll actually use.
Woven throughout every day are devotions and worship — a reminder to every camper that they are known, loved, and made with purpose.
Your Child Will Never Go It Alone
Every camper has a buddy. Every single day.
From the moment your child arrives, they are paired one-on-one with a trained volunteer buddy who stays by their side for the entire week — during activities, meals, transitions, and everything in between.
Some campers are highly independent and just need a friend nearby. Others need more hands-on support with daily tasks like dressing, meals, or personal hygiene. Whatever your child needs, their buddy is ready.
Buddies are volunteers between the ages of 16 and 25, trained specifically to support campers with special needs, and supervised by adult camp staff at all times. They are not just helpers — they become friends.

Meals
Every meal is served family style — each cabin sitting together, sharing food and swapping stories. The kitchen is fully equipped to accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, so every camper eats safely and well.
Mealtime at camp is more than just food. It’s often one of the week’s best moments. Don’t be surprised if the dining hall becomes your child’s favorite place at camp.
Safety While They Sleep
Supervised, supported, and safe — around the clock
Campers are housed in dormitory-style accommodations in the same room as their buddy and trained adult staff. Each camper, buddy, and adult will have their own bed (no one will share beds). Safety is the highest priority — day and night.
We maintain a strict three-person rule at all times: no camper or volunteer is ever alone with just one other person, including in restroom facilities. Every staff member and buddy is trained on our safety protocols before camp begins.
Your child will never be unsupervised. Not once.
What About the Faith Component?
West Texas Camps & Retreats is a Christ-centered camp. That means each day includes a short devotion and worship time, and our faith shapes how we treat every camper — with unconditional love, dignity, and grace.
We are not affiliated with any specific church or denomination. Families of all backgrounds are welcome and respected. Camp is held at Circle Six Baptist Camp in Lenora, Texas.
Looking Ahead — Growing With Families Like Yours
2026 is just the beginning
As we grow, we’re working to expand our programs to more ages, more needs, and more locations across West Texas. Family camp sessions — where parents, siblings, and caregivers experience camp together — are also on the horizon.
Your child’s spot at camp this summer helps build something permanent: a place where every child with special needs belongs.
